When Are Taxes Due? 2022 Filing & Extension Deadlines

Tax deadlines can sneak up on everyone, including you, and nothing is more aggravating than having to pay a fine you could have avoided.

Stay one step ahead of the IRS and save your hard-earned money. Feel free to save each applicable filing date to your calendar.

When is “tax day”?

Tax day for all individuals, sole proprietors, and Single Member LLCs is officially on April 18, 2022.

If you’re an incorporated business such as a S-corp, C-corp, or Partnership, tax day is officially March 15, 2022.

When are 2022 tax extensions due?

You have until the due date of your taxes to file for an extension. Individuals can still file for a tax extension on April 18. S corporations, C corporations and partnerships have until March 15 to file for an extension.

What’s the deadline to pay your taxes?

Provided you’re mailing your return, the IRS deems it “on time” if it’s properly addressed, has sufficient stamps, and gets in the mail by the close of business on the filing deadline. If you’re e-filing your tax return, you have until midnight on your tax filing due day to file your return.

For those who are self-employed, your company is likely to pay taxes in four installments during the year rather than all at once. These estimated tax payments are due on April 15, June 15, September 15, and January 16, 2023.

Not paying your taxes on time

It’s preferable to file and pay your taxes as soon as possible to avoid penalties. Otherwise, You’ll have to pay a penalty if you pay your taxes after the deadline. This equates to an extra 0.5 percent of unpaid taxes each month until your initial tax debt is paid (up to a maximum 25 percent of your total tax bill).
